Jun. 23rd, 2011 06:45 pmwe're taking it easy today. snape wanted to go out to look at the local plants, for his next version of the Draught. so we went on a bit of a walk. found some willow trees, and he took some cuttings of them. it was a nice change of pace. he seems awful keen on working up a new one, and he said local plants would be the most useful – that he wanted people to be able to pick up ingredients just by going for a walk or looking in their backyards.
I also got a chance to talk to him some more about the prophecy. about what he thought it meant.
he thinks that what it meant was that Harry is destined to kill Voldemort - that he'll be the key to his undoing in the end.
I asked him whether he thought it had to be Harry, and he said that whether or not Harry was the baby in the Prophecy, he thought that You Know Who choosing Harry the way he did meant that Harry was the one the prophecy meant.
he also said that by the time he’d gotten there, You Know Who had already heard about the prophecy, and had decided that it meant that Harry was some sort of key to immortality – that as long as Harry was alive, that He couldn’t die. Snape didn’t know who’d done it, but someone else overheard the prophecy too, and got to You Know Who first.
so merlin knows who gave Him that idea, but Harry's probably still alive because of it, because He would've killed him just as He killed lily and james otherwise.
don't know what I think about it yet. still sorting through everything myself. it's a bit mad to think about, but it explains why You Know Who went after james and lily like he did, and why He’s been so protective of Harry. not to mention how it fits with macnair’s information about how He’s obsessed with living forever.
