we've been having a time of it with ridley.
we had to spend some time patching her up and letting her rest a bit after she woke up, and we've been trying to talk with her for the last few hours. it's slow going.
first, physical. she's lost a lot of weight, and has tremors, bruises, dehydration. did the basics to try and bring her up to strength, but she's wary about being treated. we can't perform a healing spell or give her a potion without talking it over with her first. at length.
poppy, we did the best we could, but once school's cleared out you should look at her proper.
second, mental. she's paranoid as hell. stubborn too. we keep talking in circles. don't blame her, mind, and she's got plenty of reason to be suspicious, but she's convinced herself that we're MLE and this is all a plot to make her feel safe so she'll talk. she thinks scott is polyjuiced. I'm polyjuiced. the three-year old is polyjuiced. at one point, she started calling me bellatrix and yelled that I ought to kill her and get it over with. she thinks we're slipping verisatum in her food.
there's no talking to her. not like this.
she wants to check our identities by legilimency.
I say no way in hell are we compromising our security like that, or giving her one of our wands to use, even under supervision, but kingsley wants to run it by everyone in case they have any ideas.
we're taking a breather because scott just lost his temper. he'd been watching kingsley and me going in circles with her again and he just sort of explodes. he tells her off, says his wife died for her and she's disrespecting norma, and tells her we saved his life and only want to help her, and she's an idiot for thinking the kid is polyjuiced. and then he points at kingsley and me and he goes, "they offered to take me to France if I wanted, but I'm staying here if they'll have me. you can have my place on the boat. suck on it."
scott's a good sort.
we can sort out later where he'd be best suited, but if he wants to be at moddey, he's welcome.
ridley is not.
I will keep watch all damn summer if I have to.

Date: 2012-06-13 12:37 am (UTC)If we must, we will simply let France take her in.
Here's hoping she'll share some useful information before then. But if she does not, we will manage.

Date: 2012-06-13 01:08 am (UTC)Norma saw something in these people that made her think that throwing her lot in with them was worth it. And she was a person whose judgement I respected.
Well, we almost certainly cannot make any decisions tonight. As Kingsley said, once Ms Ridley sleeps on things, she may see the point of being a bit more cooperative.

Date: 2012-06-13 02:25 am (UTC)The students leave on Saturday--except for the rising fourths who are competing for space in that CCF corps--but then I've a mountain of reports to produce in advance of my performance review Monday into Tuesday.
Then I'm due back at the school to relieve my 'substitute' whilst the CCF trials finish, though it's possible I won't be going back. If my performance has been deemed unacceptable.
In any case, I think I might squeeze a quick trip to examine Mrs Ridley between the one thing and the other, even if all is well and I'm allowed to return to my work in this asp's nest of deceit and skullduggery.
